Day 31 - Byebye Kentucky

When we reached the end of our stage for today we saw a big sign which said "hometown of popeye". Now we are in Chester, Illinois, which is our last city before we enter Missouri. Today we already saw the mississippi river which we are going to cross on sunday. Then we will cross our 4th state.

Last week we stopped on a junction in White Mills to check our route when Dan, volunteer fire fighter, asked us if we want to stay one the night in a fire department! So we said "mmmm'kay!!". This is how we had our second gorgeous place to sleep. The next day we woke up because we heared a storm outside. We were glad to have a storm proof shelter. However, we had to struggle with head winds all the day. In the evening we reached Cave Creek State Park and we were happy to have a warm shower. There we met Darleen B. who is in charge of the park. She was very friendly and we talked a lot. When we realized we are out of food, we asked Darleen about the next grocery. She told us that the next grocery is a couple miles away. At first we were shocked, but Darleen invited us immediately to take us to the shop by car. What a helpful person (thank you!!). So we had enough food for the next day.

The next day we drove the whole day in rain and in the evenig we stopped for the night in a First Baptist Church in Sebree. This church was more than prepared for cyclists. Our caretaker Bob and his wife Violet invited us for dinner. They told us a lot of interesting stories about cyclists who stopped in Sebree like us. For examble a guy who crossed the country with an unicycle.

We didn't cycle our last meters in Kentucky cause we used the ferry to cross the ohio river. The ferry brought us to Cave-in-Rock in Illinois. The town is knowed for a cave which we really had to visit. Great place!

Hints for cyclist:

Total mileage so far: 2038 KM (1274 miles)
